God The Hobby

1 Timothy 1:15-17

  Introduction:

The other day my wife got a message sent to her by text, that said her little cousin had been selected to have his letter to santa published in a local paper. She felt the need to send it to my wife because it mentioned Jesus in it.

The thought hit me of the mentality of many lost people. Often times to them they veiw God as our Hobby. They collect Beanie Babies, Baseball Cards, and Precious Moments we collect Jesus Stuff. At Christmas time they try to find us collectables that say something about God. T Shirts, Coffee Mugs, and Ties if your a preacher.

They don't see God as we do. They just see Him as something we are in to. As they like their favorite ball teams and Music performers we like Jesus.

In their defense they come to this conclusion often by our actions. Many Christians treat Him like a hobby. We live for everything the world has to offer and play God when we are not about what we feel to be more important matters.

We often treat God as our Hobby. Not as He is the most serious matter in Life. He is certainly not as important as our jobs, as our Homes as our finances, or even as important as our entertainments.

hobby: a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation.

This is excatly how we often veiw Christ.

Christmas is the king of hobby time we often put Christ right down there with Santa, raindeer, snowmen and friutcake.

This Christmas lets put Christ at the place of promenence he deserves. Lets not reduce Him to just another Holiday Hobby.

 Lets Remember:

1: He came to save sinners like you and me.(Romans 1:16)

      Salvtion is in three tenses:

a.Are saved from penalty of sin and are safe

            b. BEING saved from the habit of sin.

            c.  TO BE saved to the conformity of Christ.

2;  He came out of great mercy.

        a. We didn't deserve his coming

        b. Romans 5:15-21

        c. He loved us so much he came to do the job personally.

3:  He came to be our Lord worthy of all our praise.

Conclusion:

This Christmas season lets not reduce God to Just another meaningless hobby. But lets either make Him or Restore Him to the object of which life it's self centers.
