Eternal Security

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand."

John 10:27-29

The basic acceptance or denial of this fundamental Bible truth hinges upon how you answer the questions.....Does God save and keep you?...or, By some work of your own do you save and keep yourself?

If your answer to the second question is "Yes" then it begs another question.

Why did Jesus Christ have to die on the cross in the first place if you could by works save yourself?

"For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2:8,9

It is only by faith in Christ that we can assure salvation. It is faith in what he has done, not anything that we have done. All we can do is recognize that we are not righteous(i.e. have a right standing with God) enough to enter into heaven by our own merit and trust in His righteousness(i.e. faith). This is what it means to be saved.

Eternal Security goes hand and hand with Christ dieing  for our sin. If it is in Him that we place our trust for salvation than it is He who saves us. If it is He who saves us then it is He who keeps us. We are no longer our own we are His.

Even the most famous verse in scripture promises eternal security.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 3:16

I believe in Jesus Christ and God says that is enough to enter into heaven. It doesn't say "whosoever believeth and lives it or gives to charity or acts spiritual."  It says simply "whosoever believeth". I believeth therefore I currently posses everlasting life. I'm not waiting for everlasting life I currently have it. I am now a child of God Forever.

As a child of God I cannot ever not be his child. I maybe chastened (or whipped) by Him but he will never " LEAVE ME NOR FORSAKE ME"
